It is not basically all in the order of the liver when one has hcv. it is call a liver disease because with out the liver (host) for the virus, it would be powerless to make it's millions of quasispecies that invade and overload other organs. hcv creates liver disease, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
the most adjectives few symptoms are:
depression (or other diagnosis of the brain)
skin rashes
gallbladder
other organ involvement such as the lungs, kidney's ect.
I go through hell for most of my life-so I know how your brother is feeling!
As other, get tested yourself, abundant folks go undiagnosed for years! Alt and AST level aren't always found elevated surrounded by a liver panel test, so testing for actual antibodys!
