Most of pt pts with prosthesis own a tendency to circumduct on swing phase and I grain that an ankle joint would add to the gait pattern.Does anyone know if a lower leg prosthesis can hold an ankle common for enhanced heelstrike and toe stale?
I doubt they get one, I have never see one and most of the people I know do not own them, let alone asked for them.
They do engineer prosthetics with a true ankle united. You see them alot for runners.
Emilee is correct. The new advancement in prosthetics hold made it so that quite normally it is possible for an amputee to go minus anyone knowing that they are missing a leg. However, the main switch to that is that you hold a stump. A full leg amputation at the hip will still require a "rolling" walk to swing the leg forward. A stump will allow a more inbred gait. My father lost his leg 26 years ago, with an amputation at the hip. He will never know how to have a prosthetic that will supply him a natural totter. But through his contacts, I have met and set literally dozens of amputees that unless/ until they show you,you would not know they had a prosthesis. Good luck, and hope to see you run the Boston Marathon contained by a couple of years. :D
