Does any one know what the clasification of E. coli is?
It's a gram negative rod that belongs to the relations, Enterobacteriaceae (there are 12 genera). It is probably the most intensively studied organism in jargon of genome mapping.
It is usual flora for the intestinal tract and is the most common rationale of urinary tract infections. It's presence in hose down serves as an indicator of fecal contamination.
E. coli (Escherichia coli) can thrive in both aerobic and anerobic conditions and is well cultivated and identified in a clinical laboratory. Most strains are relatively safe when present in the stool, but one strain, E. coli O157, can be fairly virulent if ingested.
It's a bacteria, isn't it?
